One of the most surprising benefits of joining the Australian Boys Choir can be discovering that you're definitely not the only who likes to sing! A shared love of music, not to mention striving to achieve an amazing sound as a group, creates a feeling that is hard to beat.

A few weeks ago, break time for one of our Junior Singer groups turned into a conversation about various boys’ experiences of being a ‘choir kid’ at school. Stories ranged from losing numerous house points for not being able to stop singing when asked, to finding a quiet place in the playground to sing, to the need for ‘breaking in’ a new class after the previous year’s had finally gotten used to frequent singing.

Whilst at school some of our students might find that their love of (or, dare I say, obsession with) their choral training raises some eyebrows, at choir they are certainly among like-minded friends. Watching this discussion take place, and the hilarity and understanding that these shared experiences raised, I was reminded about the strong sense of connection that choir provides for our students. And how lucky we are to be a part of it!
